Rusty’s First Alert Forecast - Early storms then the intense heat starts to build in.
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - There are a few storms out there this morning just east of the Missouri River. They’ll likely develop and diminish several times this morning as they gradually drift east through Iowa. Some isolated 1″+ rain totals are possible but they’ll be very spotty.
We’re likely to see the heat build in behind these storms as they move east. Highs jump into the upper 90s in the metro this afternoon with some areas west getting close to 100 today. Heat index values get up near 100 at times too thanks to a higher dew point today.
Thursday is a still a First Alert Day as 100+ degree heat is still on track. A high near 104 is likely with heat index values as high as 108 possible. This is dangerous heat for this area and could lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke very easily in a short amount of time. Check out more about that First Alert forecast here.
Friday will be a bit cooler with highs in the mid 90s and partly cloudy skies. The weekend will thankfully be a little cooler yet with some storm chances late overnight Saturday and then again early and late Sunday.
