PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) - The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office and the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District have added a new airboat to aid with search and rescue operations.

The boat was purchased to help with faster response times, rescues, assist with searches, and any other operations in the Sarpy county water areas.

The boat has enough room to fit several people.

Lights are all around the boat to help with nighttime searches.

With the 2019 floods and other recent events, the Sarpy county sheriff’s office felt like it was much needed.

“Last summer we had a lot of river-related rescues and issues going on down there, so we decided you know what it’s time. the time is now to do it”, said lieutenant Dennis Svoboda.

About 8 people in their agency are trained to operate this airboat right now. svoboda also says the goal is to have 75 percent of the time with their personnel on the street, to have the ability to operate the airboat.
