OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Elizabeth Beisel has overcome one challenge after another in her swimming career. As a three-time Olympian and two-time medalist, she has experienced massive success and now she’s turning her attention to a new mission.

She plans to swim more than 12 miles from the coast of Rhode Island to Block Island. Only two people have ever done it and she hopes to be the first woman. The swim will be called “Block Cancer” and it will raise money to fight cancer. Elizabeth decided to do this after an immediate family member was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.

Elizabeth is not in Omaha trying to make another Olympics, instead, she is here covering the trials for NBC. Beisel started working for the network a little more than a year ago before the pandemic started and she will be going to Toyko.
