Man, 71, dies after ATV rolls in south Sarpy County

SARPY COUNTY, Neb. (WOWT) - A 71-year-old man died after the ATV he was riding along a fenceline rolled and pinned him, Sarpy County officials reported Friday.

Edward Smith of Springfield, located in south Sarpy County, had been missing for hours, prompting friends and family to go look for him, according to the release from the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office.

At 9:20 p.m. Thursday, Sarpy County Sheriff’s deputies responded with Springfield Fire and Rescue after he was located on a property near 120th Street and Platteview Road a couple miles west of Springfield.

Paramedics performed life-saving measures and requested a medical helicopter land at Platteview High School, but Smith was pronounced dead, the release states.

The incident remains under investigation, but the Sheriff’s Office extended its sympathies to Smith’s family, friends, and loved ones.
