LA VISTA, Neb. (WOWT) - The man who police said attacked his girlfriend in front of two children — and stabbed himself about 20 times — was released from the hospital and was booked into Sarpy County Jail, according to La Vista Police Chief Bob Lausten.

The chief said Aaron Crawford, 32, is facing several charges related to the incident: attempted murder, first-degree assault, and use of a weapon to commit a felony, all Class 2 felonies; as well as domestic violence causing bodily injury and negligent child abuse, both Class 1 misdemeanors.

Police found a 38-year-old woman “bleeding profusely” from her neck in a Vivere Apartments unit late Wednesday. She was taken to Bergan Mercy Hospital; Crawford was taken there as well and had been placed on a mental health hold.

Police said two boys, ages 9 and 16, were in the apartment during the incident.
