David’s Evening Forecast - Sunshine and heat returns for the weekend
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A round of strong thunderstorms rolled through the metro throughout the morning hours, bringing strong winds and heavy downpours. While there were a few gusts to near 60mph, only a few damage reports were received. Rainfall amounts around the metro generally came in between a half-inch and one inch, with heavier rainfall just to the west of the metro. Lincoln reporting nearly 2 inches of rain this morning.
Those storms have quickly exited the region, leaving humid but cooler air in place for the evening hours. Temperatures have been slowly warming back into the low 80s as lingering clouds thin out. We will see some sunshine this evening as those clouds move out. Lower humidity will settle in for the later evening and overnight, allowing us to cool into the low 60s or even upper 50s. That should lead to a fantastic start to Saturday.
Lots of sunshine is expected Saturday which will heat us back up into the upper 80s for the afternoon, but lower humidity will be sticking around which should make it feel a little more comfortable. The heat continues to build on Sunday with highs back into the low 90s, and we’ll feel a little more humidity as well. Highs in the mid-90s are likely on Monday, with the summer heat sticking around through much of next week. High temperatures may climb into the upper 90s or near 100 by Thursday with only minimal chances for rain throughout the week.
