College World Series planning for lots of bike parking
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - One week from today, thousands of fans will pour into the streets near T.D. Ameritrade Park. With so many people in the area, parking for the College World Series may be difficult.
Red no parking signs are already up over parking meters near T.D. Ameritrade Park. Just steps away from the stadium, these parking spots will be used for bikes.
“They shut down, kind of, Baseball Village. It’s kind of chaotic down here. I would not want to be in a car down here personally. Sometimes being on a bike is the easier way to go,” said Sarah Johnson, Mode Shift Omaha.
That’s exactly why Mode Shift Omaha, Heartland BCycle, and Bike Nebraska are encouraging people to ride their bikes to the park. The free valet system for cyclists makes it easy to enjoy a game.
“You just roll it on over to us. Right behind me, there will be a tent, a table, and a sign-up sheet. You just give us your information and we give you a tag, the other half of the tag goes on the bike and we hang it on a rack that will be set up right in these spots,” said Johnson.
You just have to pick your bike up 30 minutes after the last pitch. The bike valet has grown into such a staple of transportation during the CWS that fans already know to bring their bikes.
“We have gotten to the point where people from out of state know to bring their bikes. Like someone will come up from Missouri, they will stay at a hotel nearby and they bring their bikes because they know it’s the best way to get here.”
Volunteers are still needed! Mode Shift says they need at least two people per game to help with the bike valet.
