OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The highest-ranking Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives congratulated Omaha’s mayor on her third term today.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says he met with Mayor Jean Stothert as well as Omaha’s police chief and city prosecutor today.

“I wanted to congratulate her on getting re-elected by such a large margin. I also met with her and the police chief. The things they did right in Omaha for security, and not defund the police. But add money, even with the controversy of a shooting that took place. How do you bring the community together to listen to them and make tough decisions?” said McCarthy.

Congressman McCarthy didn’t meet with Congressman Bacon while he was in town. Don Bacon is recovering from dental surgery.

McCarthy said he respects the general greatly for doing what’s best for his district. Remember, last month, Bacon was one of the 35 Republicans to vote for the Jan. 6th commission.
