SALINE COUNTY, Neb. (WOWT) - A three-judge panel sentenced Aubrey Trail to death Wednesday for the murder of 24-year-old Sydney Loofe in 2017.

Several members of Loofe’s family were also in the courtroom Wednesday morning. He also read aloud a statement he prepared, asking to address the family.

In his statement, Trail admitted to killing Loofe, saying that he and Bailey Boswell lured her to his apartment to get her involved in their criminal lifestyle. Loofe didn’t react well, and he said he killed her because he was afraid she would inform people about their activities. Trail had previously said Loofe was killed after a sex act went wrong.

Trail took sole responsibility for Loofe’s murder, saying Boswell, who is set for her three-judge panel hearing later this summer, was not involved.

Ahead of his sentencing hearing Wednesday, June 9, 2021, Aubrey Trail read a statement which he said was written for the family.

Ahead of the sentencing, Trail said he didn’t care which sentence was carried out.
