OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The driver of a vehicle died Sunday in Saunders County after the vehicle left the road and slammed into a tree, according to a news release.

The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office, along with Malmo Fire, and Weston and Wahoo Fire and Rescue units, responded Sunday afternoon to a one-vehicle crash about 1.75 miles north and west of Weston, according to a news release. A black GMC Envoy, which had been traveling northbound on Road 24 between roads L and M, rolled and crashed into a tree, authorities said.

The driver, 29-year-old Katie M. Weakly, was pinned and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report from the sheriff’s office. Authorities said she was not wearing a seatbelt, but that they did not yet know whether alcohol was involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
