Going Vertical Basketball Academy expands, adds two full courts
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Going Vertical Basketball Academy is now a basketball heaven.
What used to be a large turf area has been converted into two full-size basketball courts.
Co-Owner and Lead Skill Instructor Adam Barnes said they always planned to expand, but the demand for more space made it obvious now was the time to do it.
“We wanted to provide the players more opportunity to get court space, to get in the gym, to get in the weight room and really focus on the skill aspect, the technical aspect of their game,” Barnes said.
The only court space used to be a small, enclosed area. Now, the two additional courts have given players who train at the facility plenty of room to work on their craft.
“Oh, this is awesome. I came up here last summer when it was the smaller court and it was alright, but having the full court is awesome. They’re doing great stuff up here,” Creighton sophomore center Ryan Kalkbrenner said.
It’s also helping Barnes and company work on growing the game in the way they see most fit: getting kids into the gym more often and working on their fundamentals.
“So many kids, at a younger age, are getting left behind because they don’t have the adequate skill level,” Barnes said. “Providing more kids access to some real professional training, that’s the model that we’re following.”
Going Vertical is located at 10700 Sapp Brothers Dr.
