Man arrested after short chase in Omaha neighborhood

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha police are investigating a shooting that ended with one man getting arrested after a short chase.

Deron Gatus, 36, was arrested for first-degree felony assault, use of a weapon to commit a felony, possession of a gun by a prohibited person, and felony flight to avoid arrest. Identified as the shooter in the investigation, officers say Gatus was found in a car later on near North 22nd and Ohio Street.

He was taken into custody near 22nd and Lake Street after a short chase. Police met a 55-year-old man with gunshot injuries after responding to a shooting call near Sprague Street and John A Creighton Blvd at 11:45 p.m.

The 55-year-old was taken to Nebraska Medicine and his injuries are determined to be non-life-threatening by officials.
