Bellevue Public Library offers new way to binge movie favorites
The new idea is also a push to encourage more patrons to visit the public library
BELLEVUE, Neb. (WOWT) - A new idea at the Bellevue Public Library is sparking some interest. Another new way to binge your favorite classic movies is the “Binge Box.”
“People like to binge on Netflix, why not binge at the library too!” says Felicia Lacosse, a tech and cataloger at the library.
Each ‘Binge Box’ has a different theme and is complete with 10 classic, binge-worthy movies that are available for a week-long checkout.
“I think it’s catching on,” Lacosse says. “We’ve had especially more of your family favorites and comedies checked out, too.”
Throughout the pandemic, the library saw a dramatic increase in DVD donations, once donations were allowed to be made again.
“We were flooded with some extra DVDs and of course a lot of those we actually catalog and put in our system but then there would be like doubles,” Lacosse says.
Instead of throwing out the extra DVDs, they were placed into the binge boxes with other movies that match their genre. Lacosse says she believes other libraries in the area are doing this too.
Despite access to movies on Hulu, Netflix, and other streaming services, Lacosse says that sometimes families want an old-fashioned movie night. Other times, the growing number of titles online can be overwhelming.
If that’s the case, they’re here to help.
“A lot of these movies sometimes you can’t find on your streaming services anymore, too,” she says.
Themes include Family Favorites, Chick Flicks, Romantic Comedies, Disney Favorites, Based on the Book, Military Action Movies, Superheroes, and much more.
As things begin to slowly return to normal, the library hopes the new idea will draw in new people, too.
“We hope that with the reopening of everything, we’ll see more patrons coming in and it’s been a slow process but hopefully you know, they’re gonna enjoy the Binge Box!”
