OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - After a length 19 day layoff the Huskers were sharp against Texas State winning in three sets, 25-18 25-17 25-20. A team that just beat Baylor two weeks ago and coincidently that’s who Nebraska will play next. That match will be Sunday at CHI Health Center in the regional semifinals.

After taking the first set Big Red started the second on a 5-0 run forcing the Bobcats to take a timeout. The Huskers also finished the third set on a 5-0 run as well. Madi Kubik led everyone with 13 kills, Lauren Stivrins was second with ten and Kayla Caffey had nine. Caffey had the best hitting percentage at .667, she also led everyone in blocks with five. Nicklin Hames had a match high 43 assists.

Nebraska hit .398 in the match, its best of the season. Same goes for Kubik who hit a season-best .407.

Baylor is the 12 seed, Nebraska the fifth.

Elsewhere in the NCAA Tournament, here’s a statement on the cancellation of a match Wednesday night. “The NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee has declared the Rice-N.C. A&T match for Wednesday night at the CHI Health Center Omaha convention center a no-contest because of COVID-19 protocols. As a result, N.C. A&T will advance to the next round of the tournament. The NCAA and the committee regret that Rice student-athletes and coaching staff will not be able to play in a tournament in which they earned the right to participate. Because of privacy issues we cannot provide further details”
