Douglas County reports 262 new cases

A Douglas County Health Department spokesman said Thursday that the health department had confirmed 193 new positive COVID-19 cases, and that a recent adjustment in state data added an additional 69 positive cases county total. The 262 newly reported cases bring the community total to 66,937 cases.

The seven-day rolling average is 149, up from 131 on Wednesday, which was the highest since Feb. 5.

As local case numbers have risen in recent days, the health department provided an age breakdown of the recent increases:

  • Ages 20-39 up 57.5%: 213 positive cases reported for the week ending March 20; 336 cases were reported for that age group for the week ending March 27.
  • Ages 40-59 up 63.7%: 168 positive cases reported the week of March 20; 275 reported the following week.

DCHD also reported 122 positive cases in local schools, including 31 staff and 91 students, with 235 people in quarantine and 539 self-monitoring.

DCHD also reported that it has confirmed 60,674 people as recovered from the virus.

The number of COVID-19 deaths has remained 682 people since Wednesday, March 24.

The health department reported the hospitals were at 79% occupancy, with 316 beds available. Local ICUs were 71% occupied, with 97 beds available. In the county, 82 people were hospitalized with COVID-19, 29 of them in the ICU, 10 on ventilators.

Additionally, the county is also monitoring seven people as possibly positive for COVID-19.

All Hy-Vee pharmacies offering vaccinations

Hy-Vee announced Thursday that all its pharmacy locations would begin offering COVID-19 vaccinations via the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Appointments, now open to all adults, must be made through Hy-Vee.com.

The grocery chain — with participating pharmacy locations across Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota, and recently in Wisconsin — receives its vaccination supply directly from the CDC, according to a Thursday news release.

Hy-Vee is also working on organizing workplace clinics and is hiring pharmacy technicians to assist with COVID-19 testing and vaccinations at various locations in Omaha and across the company.

Hy-Vee also offers free molecular PCR testing, rapid antigen testing, and rapid antibody testing to test for past COVID-19 infection, the news release states. Tests can also be scheduled on the Hy-Vee website.

“Hy-Vee’s rapid COVID-19 vaccine expansion has allowed us to reach key communities in both urban and rural areas across the Midwest,” Randy Edeker, Hy-Vee’s chairman, CEO, and president said in the release. “Leveraging our team of more than 2,700 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, our fleet of Hy-Vee Healthy You Mobiles and our strategic partnerships that we have built with local organizations, we have been able to make great strides in helping protect our communities from this pandemic.”

Vaccine Appointments are now available for those born in 1976 or earlier. To schedule an appointment visit:...
