OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - We’re staying chilly and snow packed for the first weekend of January, with periods of dense freezing fog likely.

Omaha Eppley Airfield topped out at 28° Saturday after starting off at 9°. Patches of dense fog caused impacts through the morning; some patches in Wahoo and Tekamah stuck around through the afternoon! In these spots, temperatures stayed a few degrees cooler than the surrounding areas as a result.

A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect through Noon Sunday, as pockets of very low visibility and slick spots are possible. We should see a bit more sunshine around Sunday afternoon, with SSW winds warming us into the lower-30s.  The timing of fog, both the onset and when/if it lifts, will impact our lows and highs Sunday.

Another chance for dense fog moves in Sunday night, but should move out by sunrise Monday.

We’ll finally warm several degrees above freezing Monday into Tuesday, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper-30s! This will help us put a dent into melting our snowpack from this past week.

Our next chance for precipitation arrives Wednesday, with a rain/snow mix possible. Accumulation looks light at this time. Some light snow/flurries may linger into Thursday, with highs in the 30s sticking with us through the rest of the 10-day forecast.
