OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - With only eight players, Nebraska beat 15th ranked Northwestern at the horn. Sam Haiby put up an awkward shot that found the basket as the clock hit zero at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

“There wasn’t really any openings, just try to make a play there, pursue my rebound, look backward, threw it at the rim and it went in, I’m going to thank the basketball gods for that one too,” said Haiby.

It’s the program’s first win against a team ranked inside the top 15 in six years.

Haiby scored a team-high 19 points, in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. It wasn’t all good for Haiby facing adversity in the second half, she checked out with 7:45 to go with a cramp in her right leg. After returning Haiby led the Huskers to the most dramatic win of the season.

Big Red will next play Sunday, again in Lincoln, against Rutgers. That’s a 2 pm start as the Huskers look to improve on their 2-2 Big Ten record.
