OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - If your Thanksgiving Day plans include a large gathering, health officials are still urging you to reconsider.

Dr. Kelly Cawcutt is an infectious disease doctor at UNMC working directly with COVID-positive patients.

She completely changed her holiday plans this year to protect her family near and far.

Instead of driving to her parents in Minnesota, Dr. Cawcutt will celebrate at home with only her husband and two kids.

She’s hoping others will follow the advice from healthcare experts to keep holiday gatherings small and curb the potential spread of the coronavirus.

“Protecting our family and friends from getting COVID-19 is important and for me personally, I consider that an act of love, to protect my family,” said Dr. Cawcutt.

Dr. Cawcutt’s advice for those who do still plan to gather with others: wear a mask and keep your distance.
