A recent improvement in how the National Weather Service defines warning areas has resulted in significantlyhigher accuracy and smaller warned areas, compared to the decades-old county-wide warning method.
The WeatherCall™ system continuously monitors the National Weather Service’s NOAA weatherwire. Using GIS computerized mapping, the system compares a subscriber'sspecific location to thelocation of the warning area. When a severe weather warning includes your location, you will receive a phone call fromChief Meteorologist, Jim Flowers, 24 hours a day. You can also receive the warning by email with a detailed map of the threat area if you provide an email address when you register. You may also use any of the email address entries to set up the warning to be delivered by SMS text messaging.
The Channel 6 StormCall will alert you via phone, email, and text-message ONLY when your home, office, job site, school, or ANY other location across the Continental US you desire, is within an official National Weather Service Tornado Warning Area.
Saunders, Dodge, Douglas, Washington, Harrison, and Pottawattamie County’s combined 3,640 sq. miles are under a TORNADO WARNING.
The actual warning area is 254 square miles. Only WeatherCall subscribers INSIDE the red box would receive the warning call.
Warning calls, from Channel 6 Chief Meteorologist Jim Flowers, are delivered up to three phone numbers
Warnings can also be emailed up to three addresses
Warnings can also be sent via SMS text message
Severe Thunderstorm and Flash Flood Warning notification is optional
