Cheryl Lemke joined the WOWT Weather Authority team in February 2013. Cheryl was born and raised in Omaha, growing up near Hanscom Park and attending Central High School. Even as a child, Cheryl was fascinated by the weather and particularly intrigued by the power and force of Nature. Cheryl earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Iowa State and in 2006 Cheryl was awarded a Distinguished Alumni Award from Iowa State University.
Prior to coming to WOWT, Cheryl worked at WSBT-TV in South Bend, Indiana, WXIA-TV in Atlanta, Georgia, and also WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, Indiana; however, the majority of Cheryl's broadcast meteorology career was spent at The Weather Channel. From ice storms and blizzards to severe floods and landfalling hurricanes, Cheryl has covered a vast array of extreme weather phenomena.
Cheryl also holds the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association television seals of approval.
Cheryl is excited about returning to her roots and spending time with family and friends in the Omaha area. When Cheryl is not working, you will find her enjoying the great outdoors. She loves to garden and hike and go bicycling along some scenic trails. Cheryl is also a huge Cornhusker football fan and occasionally may be seen wearing an iconic foam "corn head" cheering on her favorite team.
