Born in Sidney, Nebraska, John Knicely is a graduate of the University of Nebraska School of Broadcast Journalism.

John and his wife Sue have four grandchildren.

John served as Sportscaster for WOWT from 1974 to 1981, at which time he moved to St. Louis in the same capacity for KTVI, the ABC affiliate. He returned to Omaha and KETV in May of 1984, and made the move back to WOWT Channel 6 in May of 1992, this time as Anchor of the 5, 6 and 10PM Newscasts.

Since that time John has become a favorite in the community through his John at Work news features.

John has received numerous awards, including the Journalism Alumni Award of Excellence from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received Associated Press First Place Awards for series reporting in 2000, and for agriculture stories in 1993 and 1995.

He enjoys playing golf and basketball.
