Amaka joined Channel 6 as a Backpack Journalist/MMJ in December 2011 and is originally from Florida.
She grew up in Tallahassee, the capital of the Sunshine State and graduated from the University of Miami with a B.S. in Communications.
While in college she interned at Sky News, CBS Evening News, and the Close-Up Foundation. She also participated in a journalism program at American University and interned at WCTV-TV in Tallahassee.
Amaka took her first reporting job at KRCR-TV in Redding, California.
She loves covering stories that make a difference for viewers. One of the stories she is most proud of, was uncovering a Northstate utility company that was overcharging residents by hundreds of dollars. After she did a series of investigative stories, the company enforced new standards to read their meters and dropped the charges.
When not at work, you will likely find Amaka at the gym, watching college football, or reading a historical fiction novel.
