Storm Chasers, Rainiers Split

The Storm Chasers scored six times in the fourth inning to erase a 4-0 deficit and went on to beat Tacoma 8-5 in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader at Werner Park. The Rainiers took game two 4-0.

With two outs and a runner on second in the first inning of the first game, Luis Antonio Jimenez singled home Luis Rodriguez to give the Rainiers a 1-0 lead. Carlos Triunfel singled and Chih-Hsien Chiang singled to make it 2-0. Guillermo Quiroz also singled to score Triunfel. Chiang led off the fourth inning with a homer to give Tacoma a 4-0 lead.

The Chasers exploded in the home half of the fourth. Jason Bourgeois reached on an infield single and went to second on a Jeff Marquez (3-4) wild pitch. Derrick Robinson and Wil Myers walked to load the bases. Clint Robinson doubled to clear the bases and took third on the throw home. Tony Abreu singled in Clint. David Lough singled and Anthony Seratelli did the same to plate Abreu. Chance Ruffin replaced Marquez on the mound and gave up a sacrifice fly to Kevin Kouzmanoff to score Lough to make it a 6-4 game.

Guillermo Quiroz’s eighth home run of the season in the sixth cut Omaha’s lead to 6-5, but the Storm Chasers added two runs in the home sixth. Lough singled, stole second and took third on Kouzmanoff’s single. Cody Clark’s sacrifice bunt sent Lough home and Kouzmanoff to second where he scored from on a Bourgeois single.

Vin Mazzaro (2-0) went 5.1 innings, charged with five runs on nine hits. He struck out seven and walked one.

Anthony Vasquez (5-2) pitched a three-hit, complete game shutout in the second game as the Rainiers salvaged a split.

Jimenez doubled and Triunfel singled him home. Triunfel would steal second and later score on Leury Bonilla’s single. Jimenez sent his ninth home run over the right field wall in the fifth for a 3-0 lead. With two outs in the sixth, Bonilla reached on an error by Kouzmanoff at third, stole second and scored on Brandon Bantz’s single.

Sean O'Sullivan (3-3) went 5.2 innings for Omaha, giving up eight hits and four runs (three earned).
