Tyler Scaggs held the Storm Chasers scoreless on two hits over seven innings and the Reno bullpen did the rest in a 5-3 win Friday night at Werner Park.
After the first two Aces were retired in the first inning, Josh Bell walked and Mike Jacobs hit his 13th home run for a quick 2-0 lead. Jacobs led off the sixth with a walk, went to third on A. J. Pollock’s single and scored on Cole Gillespie’s sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
Skaggs (4-1) struck out nine and walked three in his seven innings. Jensen Lewis replaced Skaggs to start the eighth and walked Adam Moore. After Jason Bourgeois lined out to short, Irving Falu and Johnny Giavotella singled to load the bases. Jonathan Albaladejo was brought in to replace Lewis and got Kurt Mertins to ground into a force out, third to home, but Wil Myers then walked to force in Falu with Omaha’s first run.
Reno added two runs in the ninth on Adam Eaton’s RBI single and Donnie Joseph’s wild pitch with the bases loaded. Giavotella's two-run single in the bottom of the ninth made it 5-3.
Jake Odorizzi (8-2) took the loss.
