The Kansas City Royals placed Miguel Tejada on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained right calf.
Tejada was injured while diving for a ball in the seventh inning Saturday night against Boston. The 39-year old was hitting .288 in 53 games and had won the starting second base job.
The Royals also activated All-Star catcher Salvador Perez from the concussion list after he missed seven games. Perez was in the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, batting fifth.
The Royals recalled infielder Irving Falu, who hit .341 in 24 games last season, from Triple A-Omaha and optioned left-handed pitcher Donnie Joseph, who threw two scoreless innings Saturday, back to Omaha. Falu was hitting .264 this season for the Storm Chasers with two home runs and 28 RBIs.
KC added infield depth by making a trade with the Twins Sunday for Jamey Carroll. Minnesota will get either a player to be named later or cash. The 39-year-old Carroll is hitting .230 with nine RBIs.
The Royals also designated for assignment catcher Brett Hayes and activated right-handed pitcher Wade Davis from the family emergency leave list.
