Maverick pitchers threw shutouts in both ends of a doubleheader sweep, 2-0 and 9-0 Saturday afternoon at Fort Wayne.
Matt Tew (3-5) struck out a career-high nine over six innings in game one, giving up six hits (all singles) while walking two. In the second inning, Clayton Taylor doubled in Tyler Splichal for a 1-0 lead. An inning later, Cory Buckley tripled and Ryan Keele doubled to make it 2-0.
Steven Schoonover (3-2) threw his first career complete game in the second game, scattering six hits (again all singles) and striking out a career-best four batters with no walks.
The UNO offense exploded for 16 hits. Keele led the charge with a career-best 5-for-5 effort and three RBIs while Alex Mortensen finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
The Mavericks improved to 18-19 (12-3 Summit League) while the Mastodons dropped to 19-23 (7-12 Summit League).
