UN-Omaha Wins Opener 4-1

The UN-Omaha hockey team got goals from four different players to beat Lethbridge, 4-1, in an exhibition game on Monday at the CenturyLink Center.

The game was the opener for the Mavericks who begin regular season play on Friday.

It didn't take long for the Mavericks to open the scoring. Just 59 seconds into the game, Dominic Zombo tapped in a feed from Brock Montpetit. Zahn Raubenheimer also picked up an assist.

The Mavs doubled their lead at 12:31 when Ryan Walters scored. His first shot was stopped, but he gathered up the rebound, weaved through traffic and fired in a shot off Lethbridge goalie Dylan Tait.

Late in the period, Raubenheimer got on the board when he took a pass from Montpetit and zipped a shot over the glove hand of Tait.

UNO added to its lead in the second when Matt White set up Josh Archibald for a powerplay goal at 7:55.

Lethbridge got a five-on-three powerplay goal from Daniel Iwanski in the third period to close the scoring.

John Faulkner got the win, stopping two shots in the first period. Dayn Belfour made three saves in the second period, and freshman Anthony Stolarz stopped five of six in the third.

The Mavericks begin the regular season on Friday, Oct. 12 at the Icebreaker in Kansas City, Mo. They'll take on Army in the opening round at 9 p.m.
