Kyle Kleinendorst hit two doubles, homered and drove in six runs as North Dakota State completed a doubleheader sweep with a 15-7 win over UNO following an 8-7 victory in game one Saturday afternoon at the Ballpark at Boys Town.
North Dakota State (17-16, 5-4 Summit League) rapped out a season-high 17 hits in the second game. The Bison scored on a wild pitch, bases-loaded walk and a two-run single by Nick Altavilla to jump ahead 4-0 in the first inning.
The Mavericks (15-18, 9-2 Summit League) started chipping away, with single runs in the second and third. After the Bison got one back in the fourth, the Mavs scored twice in the home fourth on Caleb Palensky's two-run homer to cut the lead to 5-4.
NDSU extended the lead to 9-4 with a pair of unearned runs in the fifth and a two-run double from Kleinendorst in the sixth. Up 9-7 in the eighth, Kleinendorst doubled in two more and scored on Blake Turbak's single for a 12-7 lead. Omaha native Jon Hechtner doubled and scored on Wes Satzinger's single in the ninth and Kleinendorst then homered.
Adam Lambrecht (4-0) got the win and Matt Tew (2-5) took the loss.
NDSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opener before the Mavericks took the lead with four runs in the third, capped by Ryan Keele's two-run triple.
North Dakota State answered with four runs in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. John Skrbec walked with the bases-loaded in the seventh to make it 8-4.
Cole Gruber's singled in two runs and scored on Alex Schultz's single to make it a one-run game in the seventh, but Clayton Taylor flied out and Palensky forced Schultz at second to end the game.
Parker Trewin (1-2) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the win and Derek Landis (0-1) was the losing pitcher.
