Ryan Keele homered twice to lead a 24-hit attack as Nebraska Omaha out-slugged North Dakota State 19-11 at the Ballpark at Boys Town Sunday afternoon.
The Mavericks (16-18, 10-2 Summit League) scored 10 runs in the second inning. Keele's lead-off homer to right center got it started. As UNO batted around, Tyler Splichal, Alex Schultz and Clayton Taylor each had two hits in the inning. A two-run single from Splichal and a two-run double by Caleb Palensky highlighted the inning, pushing Omaha ahead 10-1.
The Bison (17-17, 5-5 Summit League) made it 10-5 with a four-run third and UNO responded with four of its own in the bottom half to push it to 14-5. North Dakota State cut it to 14-10 in the fourth, but the Mavericks plated two runs in the fifth, then three in the sixth, including Keele's second homer, for a score of 19-10.
Splichal went 5-for-6 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Palensky went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs and redshirt freshman Clayton Taylor was 4-for-5 with a run scored and five driven in.
Dylan Casey (3-0) limited NDSU to three hits over 2.0 scoreless innings in relief, walking one and striking out four batters. Starter Trevor Jaunich (2-4) took the loss, giving up 10 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits with a walk and a strikeout over 2.0 innings.
