Mavericks Maul Panthers 4-1
The Mavericks scored twice in the first five minutes en route to a 4-1 victory over Eastern Illinois Saturday afternoon in Omaha.
Craig Buettner scored at 3:06 and Cody Thayer did likewise at 4:33. EIU's Will Butler cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal at the 42:33 mark.
Felipe da Silva volleyed home a Chava Garcia corner kick in the 63rd minute and Vance Rookwood added an 89th-minute goal off an 18-yard shot that was deflected into the net off a Panther player.
UNO out-shot EIU 22-12 and 7-5 on goal. Matt Grosey made four saves for the Mavericks (4-5-1, 2-0-1 in Summit League). Eastern Illinois fell to 2-10 and 0-3 in The Summit League.
