The UNO softball team improved to 9-1 on the season with a 4-0 win over Dayton Sunday in Denton, Texas. The Mavericks took four-out-of-five at this weekend's North Texas Lovelace Invitational.
The Mavs scored all their runs in the sixth inning. Campbell Ditto doubled and Molly Negrete laced a triple to score Ditto. After a Dayton pitching change, Mara Eeman singled to score Negrete to make it 2-0. Tonya Peterson then walked and Tara Trede singled to load the bases for Allie Mathewson, who singled to right center to score Eeman and Peterson for a 4-0 advantage.
It was more than enough support for Dana Elsasser (6-1), who allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out three to pick up her third complete-game shutout of the year.
The Flyers dropped to 0-5 after falling to the Mavericks for the second time this weekend. UNO beat Dayton 9-2 in the first game of the tournament on Friday.
