Western Illinois romped over the UNO women 71-44 Saturday evening in Macomb, Illinois.
Western Illinois (9-7, 2-2 Summit League) came out on fire, hitting 6-of-8 from three-point range in the opening 7:16 to build a 22-8 lead. The Leathernecks continued to have their way on offense and pushed the lead to 15 on three separate occasions and never let the Mavs get within single digits the rest of the half. WIU took a 37-22 lead into the break.
Things didn't get better in the second half as the Mavericks hit just 1-of-9 from the floor in the first 9:16 and couldn't get any closer than 13 points.
The Leathernecks built their lead to 22 at 55-33 with 7:55 left and pulled away late with an 11-2 run in the final minutes for the 27-point win, the Mavericks' worst loss of the season.
UNO's Carolyn Blair-Mobley led all scorers with 20 points and had a game-high nine rebounds. The Mavericks (11-5, 3-3 Summit League) hit just 16-of-52 from the floor (30.8 percent).
Michelle Maher and Ashley Luke led the Leathernecks with 12 points each.
