Allie Mathewson's RBI single in the bottom of the 10th scored Lindsay Redding from second to give the UNO softball team a 1-0 win over South Dakota State Saturday afternoon at Westside Field.
The Mavericks are now 25-4 and 3-0 in Summit League play with the series sweep. South Dakota State fell to 9-18 and 1-5 in The Summit League.
Dana Elsasser and Kori Seidlitz engaged in a pitcher's duel as both teams had just one hit through five innings, a bunt single by Molly Negrete in the second and a dribbler that went 10 feet down the third base line by Alex Landon in the fourth.
The teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the 10th when Redding led off with a walk and stole second on the first pitch to Mathewson. Mathewson then lined one up the middle and Redding touched home plate as the catcher received the throw from center field.
Elsasser (15-4) allowed just two hits and picked up her eighth shutout of the season, fanning a career-high 11 batters with no walks. Seidlitz (5-12) took the loss allowing the one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.
