Huskers Shut Down Mavericks 4-0

Two Nebraska pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout over UNO 4-0 Wednesday at Bowlin Stadium.

Freshman Emily Lockman (9-2) allowed four hits over four innings with three strikeouts. Junior Tatum Edwards picked up the first save of her career, tossing three innings of one-hit relief, striking out six. NU posted its 11th shutout of the season, becoming the first team to shut out the Mavericks (22-4) this season.

The Huskers (23-6) produced 11 hits and scored four runs off UNO ace Dana Elsasser (13-4), who had allowed a total of six runs in her first three career starts against Nebraska.

The Huskers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Gabby Banda drew a lead-off walk and scored on a double by Taylor Edwards, who moved to third on an error and scored on a two-out single from Dawna Tyson.

Taylor Edwards stretched the lead to 3-0 with a home run over the scoreboard in left field in the fifth. Tatum Edwards then helped herself in the sixth, reaching on an infield single before scoring on a two-out single by Banda.
