Jason Kalber tossed a complete-game, allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk as the Mastodons beat the Mavericks 6-2 Friday afternoon in Fort Wayne.
UNO (16-19, 10-3 Summit League), down 4-0 after three innings, scored twice in the fifth. Cole Gruber led off by reaching on an error followed by a bunt single from Caleb Palensky. A sacrifice bunt by Clayton Taylor put both runners in scoring position and Brett Bass singled to score Gruber. Alex Mortensen then singled plating Palensky.
Fort Wayne (19-21, 7-10 Summit League) countered with a pair of runs in the sixth as Steve Lowden came in on Kevin Wirth's RBI single and Brandon Soat scored on a wild pitch.
The loss went to freshman Tyler Fox (4-2), who threw 5.0 innings and surrendered six runs (five earned) on three hits. Fox struck out four and walked three.
