Trailing 4-0 and 5-2 late in the game, a ninth-inning Bluejay rally was stymied by a controversial call as Indiana State held on for a 5-4 win Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute.
Down 5-3 entering the ninth, Creighton loaded the bases with one out as Landon Lucansky drew a walk, Kevin Lamb singled and Brad McKewon was hit by a pitch.
Federico Castagnini lined a single to left to cut the deficit to 5-4. Jake Peter smacked a ball towards second where Castagnini was forced out and Peter beat the throw to first, but the umpires ruled that Castagnini interfered with the completion of the throw to first, thus retiring Peter for the game's final out.
Sean Manaea picked up the win (5-2), allowing two runs on five hits and four walks in 6.2 innings. Greg Kuhlman recorded the final two outs to earn his first save of the season. Nick Musec (0-4) took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks in 4.1 innings.
