Dallas Baptist scored four times in the eighth, three coming on a home run by Duncan McAlpine, to defeat Creighton 8-6 Sunday afternoon at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
The Patriots (36-16) took a quick 1-0 lead in the first. Ronnie Mitchell tripled, Boomer Collins walked and Mitchell scored when Collins was forced at second on Joel Hutter's grounder.
Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, the Bluejays (21-25) exploded for five runs on five hits. Alex Staehely led off with a single and advanced to third on a Scott Thornburg single. Jake Peter picked up his 11th double of the season, driving in Staehely and putting a pair of runners in scoring position. A passed ball by McAlpine allowed Thornburg to score and Peter to advance to third. Brennan Murphy then drew a walk before Chance Ross doubled down the right field line. A two-out RBI single by Brad McKewon knocked starter Andrew Elkins out of the game and put Creighton up 5-2.
The Patriots got two back in the sixth to get to within one run and the Jays added another run in the home half of the sixth to extend their lead to 6-4.
Dallas Baptist reclaimed the lead in the eighth inning, highlighted by McAlpine's blast on a 3-0 count.
