The U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) has named Creighton's Doug McDermott as its Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week.

This is the third year in a row McDermott has been honored by the USBWA, the first men's player in history to earn a National Player of the Week accolade in three straight seasons. This is the fifth season that the USBWA has selected a national player of the week.

McDermott helped Creighton remain undefeated in BIG EAST play by averaging 27.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in wins over DePaul and Xavier last week.

The senior forward had 19 points, five rebounds and four assists in Creighton’s 81-62 win at DePaul on Tuesday. On Sunday, McDermott scored Creighton’s first eight points after the team fell behind 12-0 to Xavier, and would finish with 35 points, seven rebounds and three assists. He had 20 points in the second half, including nine straight as the Bluejay lead stretched from 71-65 to 77-68 in the final minutes.

Yesterday, McDermott was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the fifth time this season, and second consecutive week. The senior forward was also named National Player of the Week by NBCSports.com as well as by CBSSports.com.

The weekly Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week will be considered for the Oscar Robertson Trophy watch list, which will be released at mid-season.

Creighton (14-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) plays a pair of games this week, beginning with tonight's 8:07 pm home contest vs. Butler that will air on FOX Sports 1.
