Creighton's Gregory Echenique is one of 20 of the nation's most outstanding senior men's basketball players selected to play in the 2013 Reese's Division I College All-Star Game, sponsored by the Nationa lAssociation of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
The NABC Division I College All-Star Game will be played on Friday, April 5at 5:07 p.m. ET at the Georgia Dome, not long after the final open practice session of the day held by Michigan (3:00-3:50 pm ET). The game is free to attend, and will air nationwide (tape-delayed) on CBS on Sunday, April 7th at 2 p.m. ET.
Echenique was an honorable-mention All-MVC pick as a senior and became the first player in Creighton history to be named to the MVC's All-Defensive Team three times. He was named the 2011-12 MVC Defensive Player of the Year, and also was a two-time all-MVC Tournament team pick. In his final game, he became the 36th player in Creighton history to surpass 1,000 career points at the school, and if you include his Rutgers numbers he finished his career with 1,364 points, 991 rebounds and 268 blocked shots.
"Gregory has been a big part of our success the past three seasons and is very deserving for inclusion in this All-Star Game," said his Creighton coach, Greg McDermott.
As part of his five-day trip to Atlanta, Echenique will be able to attend
Saturday's Final Four games before returning to town on Sunday.
