The Bluejays took game two of their series at Wichita State, downing the Shockers 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
Creighton broke out on top in the fifth with an unearned run. Jerry Mitchell and Brad McKewon singled with two out. Federico Castagnini grounded a ball to short that was misplayed by shortstop Erik Harbutz, allowing Mitchell to score.
The Jays added two more runs in the sixth. Alex Staehely drew a lead-off walk and Reagan Fowler sacrificed him to second. The Shockers chose to intentionally walk Brennan Murphy before Michael Blatchford bounced out to third, advancing both runners.
Wichita State coach Gene Stephenson brought Aaron LaBrie in from the bullpen and Creighton's Ed Servais countered by calling on Landon Lucansky to pinch hit for DH Ryan Fitzgerald. Lucansky delivered by lining one off the glove of Shocker third baseman Tanner Kirk to make it 2-0. Mitchell followed with a single into right for a 3-0 lead.
Wichita State got a run back in the sixth via a sacrifice fly off the bat of Harbutz.
Nick Musec (2-5) held the Shockers to the one run on two hits and six walks with four strikeouts in five innings. A.J. Ladwig (4-5) took the loss.
