The Creighton Volleyball program moved to the No. 24 spot in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association Top-25 poll. This is the third time in as many weeks this season that CU has been ranked, and seventh straight week overall dating to last season.
Three of Creighton's next seven opponents are receiving votes in this week's AVCA poll, including No. 11 UCLA (Sept. 14) and No. 10 Hawai'i (Sept. 20). Friday's foe, unbeaten Cal State Northridge, is also garnering the attentinon of the voting coaches in the "others receiving votes" category.
For the third time in as many weeks, the poll boasts a new national No. 1, as USC ascended to the top spot. Texas, Penn State, Minnesota and Florida round out the top-five.
Last season Creighton moved into the national rankings for the first time in program history on November 5, moving into the No. 25 spot in the poll. The Bluejays were also ranked 23rd (Nov. 12), 21st (Nov. 19) and No. 24 in the year-end poll. This year's Bluejay team was ranked No. 25 in the preseason poll before moving to a best-ever No. 19 last week.
Creighton is coming off a 2-1 showing at last week's Bluejay Invitational and is currently 4-1 on the season. The Bluejays swept Northern Colorado and South Florida before falling in the title match to newly-ranked California (No. 23).
The Bluejays are home on Tuesday for a 6 pm match vs. Kansas (4-2) before trekking to Denver, Colo., this weekend to face Cal State Northridge (6-0), Denver (5-1) and UCLA (5-1).
