The Creighton women tied a program record with 16 three-pointers as the Jays downed host Evansville 70-63 on Saturday night.
Evansville (3-10, 1-1 MVC) opened the game on an 18-2 run in the first six minutes, only to have the Bluejays answer with a 16-2 run to make it 20-18 with 8:56 remaining in the first half. Freshman Marissa Janning kick started her team with back-to-back triples. Sarah Nelson got in the act by sandwiching three-pointers around another by Janning to make it 20-18.
The Purple Aces ended the half with a 39-34 lead. Creighton (10-3, 2-0 MVC) took control with an 21-2 run in the first nine minutes of the second half to build a 55-41 lead with 11:05 left in the game. All 21 Bluejay points came from beyond the arc, led by nine from Ally Jensen.
Down the stretch the Jays held Evansville at bay as Janning finished with a career-high 22 points and Jensen tied a career-high with 18 points. As a team, CU finished 16-of-37 (43.2 percent ) from beyond the arc.
