Six Bluejay starters had multiple hits as Creighton defeated Nebraska 5-3 Friday night before 8,395 fans at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
Creighton jumped on Nebraska with two runs in the first. Federico Castagnini and Jake Peter set the stage with back-to-back singles before Alex Staehely put the Jays ahead with a double down the left field line. Reagan Fowler followed with an RBI ground out making it 2-0.
The Huskers got on the board in the third as Michael Pritchard put down a safety squeeze. The Bluejays responded in the fourth as Michael Blatchford singled home Fowler, who had opened the inning with a single, to put CU up 3-1.
The Jays (23-9) made it 4-1 in the seventh, but Nebraska (19-21) answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh on Rich Sanguinetti's single with the bases loaded. Creighton added an insurance run in the ninth on Peter's RBI single.
Tommy Strunc (6-1) got the win and Christian DeLeon (5-3) took the loss.
