Behind a career-high 30 points from D.J. Richardson, Illinois posted a 71-51 win over Nebraska in a physical Big Ten contest at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Tuesday night.

Richardson hit a career-high six three-pointers, while nearly doubling his previous season high of 16 points. Richardson had 20 of his 30 points in the second half. Despite his hot shooting, Nebraska fought back to trim the lead to six at 51-44 midway through the second half. But Illinois pulled away from there.

On the other side of the court, Nebraska struggled shooting all night, helping Illinois stretch a 12-point halftime lead into a 20-point victory. The Huskers shot 31.8 percent for the game, including just 2-of-14 (14.3 percent) from beyond the arc. Nebraska did not hit a field goal over the final 8:55 of the first half and the final 8:11 of the second half.

Dylan Talley paced Nebraska with 16 points, his high in Big Ten play this season. Brandon Ubel, who returned to the starting lineup, added 10 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

With the loss, Nebraska fell to 10-10 on the season and 1-6 in conference play. Illinois improved to 15-5 and 2-4 in league action.
