No. 4 Nebraska took down No. 1 Penn State in a five-set (12-25, 32-30, 19-25, 25-23, 15-10) thriller Sunday afternoon at the NU Coliseum.
Gina Mancuso led Nebraska (18-3, 10-2 Big Ten) with 16 kills and 17 digs. Morgan Broekhuis posted 13 kills and 13 digs while Meghan Haggerty had 12 kills and seven blocks and Hannah Werth notched 11 kills and a career-high 27 digs. Lauren Cook paced the Husker offense with 52 assists, also contributing 18 digs.
The Huskers posted a .171 hitting percentage in the match while Penn State hit at a .237 clip. NU was out-blocked 14-11, but out-dug PSU 94-90.
Four Nittany Lions (21-2, 11-1 Big Ten) posted double-digit kills with Deja McClendon leading the way with a match-high 20. Ariel Scott was second with 19, Megan Courtney had 11 and Katie Slay posted 10.
Micha Hancock dished out 61 assists, six kills and 13 digs. Three other Lions also had double-digit digs with Dominique Gonzalez posting a career-high 29. McClendon recorded 19 and Courtney tallied 10.
Hancock led all players with a personal-best eight blocks and Slay put up seven. Nia Grant posted five blocks.
