Nebraska came up short in its attempt at an opening weekend sweep, falling 2-1 to DePaul Sunday afternoon in Lincoln.
Jaycie Johnson scored for the Huskers (1-1) in the 89th minute off an assist from Caroline Flynn to give NU a chance in the closing minutes. Johnson’s tap-in marked her second goal of the season. She led the Huskers with two shots as NU compiled five for the game.
The Blue Demons (2-0) opened the scoring in the 16th minute as Elise Wyatt rebounded a shot that hit the left post and knocked it in. Abby Reed put DePaul up for good with her unassisted goal in the 85th minute. DePaul compiled six shots on goal, three from Wyatt.
NU goalkeeper Kelly Schatz made four saves.
