When the invitations to the NCAA men’s basketball tournament were handed out Sunday, many saw the potential match-up between Nebraska and Creighton on Sunday. However, neither team is showing any willingness to look past their first game on Friday..
The 3rd seed Creighton Bluejays say their opponent Friday, 14th seed Louisana-Lafayette, has earned a lot of respect. Doug McDermott said, "You know, we played them our freshman year. They were really well-coached team. They kind of run that Princeton-style offense with a lot of athletes, so it's tough to guard. You know, Georgetown runs that kind of offense too, so we're going to have a very good week of practice."
Jahenns Manigat said, "They're a well-coached team as Doug mentioned. We're just going to have to prepare ourselves, you know just like for any Big East match-up because they have the athletes down there."
Coach Greg McDermott said, "We will be playing a well-prepared basketball team that will try to take away some of the things we like to do and they will obviously try to expose us in areas that we might have weakness."
Meanwhile, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are also playing Friday in San Antonio. The 11th seed Huskers will face 6th seed Baylor. For Nebraska, it’s the first invitation to the big tournament in 16 years. Head coach Tim Miles said this season is the beginning of a big return, “In this business, you can be a flash in the pan you know. Hot one day, cooked the next. That's not where we want to be. We don't want to be a one hit wonder, so we're going to build it to sustain success. These guys are going to be a huge part of it."
