Held to just four hits, the Huskers went quietly Sunday afternoon in Irvine, losing to the Anteaters 2-0.
UC Irvine starter Andrew Morales improved to 6-0 with 7.2 shutout innings. The righty allowed four hits and two walks while striking out six.
Husker starter Brandon Pierce (1-3) retired the first four Anteaters he faced before Taylor Sparks laced a one-out single in the second. After Sparks moved to second on a ground out, he tried to score on a base hit to right off the bat of Mikey Duarte, but Austin Darby delivered a perfect throw to Tanner Lubach to cut down Sparks at the plate.
The Anteaters (15-5) did break through in the third. Kris Paulino led off with single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Dominique Taylor's double.
Taylor singled in the fifth and would come around to score from third when Lubach threw the ball wide of Pierce on the mound following a pitch.
Nebraska fell to 6-11.
