The Zephyrs won both ends of a doubleheader, 5-3 and 5-4 Saturday night in New Orleans. The opener was actually the completion of a game suspended earlier this season due to inclement weather.
The Zephyrs took a 3-0 lead in the second. Paul Gran tripled home two runs and scored on a Kevin Mattison single.
Omaha got on the board in the third as Brett Hayes singled and went to third on Irving Falu's double. Hayes would score on a sac fly off the bat of Max Ramirez.
New Orleans added to its lead in the fifth. Gran doubled and took third on a wild pitch by Nate Adcock. Mattison then singled him home. Another wild pitch by Adcock allowed Mattison to advance to second. He would go to third when Gorkys Hernandez grounded out to second. With Ed Lucas batting, Adcock uncorked yet another wild pitch and Mattison scored to make it a 5-1 game.
Adcock (2-3) would leave after 4.1 innings, charged with five runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out three.
Johnny Giavotella homered to lead off the seventh. Xavier Nady singled and went to third on Anthony Seratelli's single. He came in on Chad Tracy's sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Matt Neil (1-0) got the win.
Omaha jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap. Willy Taveras' double with the bases loaded plated two and Falu's single scored Tracy. The Zephyrs answered with a pair of runs in the home second.
The Storm Chasers went up 4-2 in the fourth on Giavotella's RBI single, but again the home team answered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Gran walked with the bases loaded.
New Orleans tied it at 4-4 in the fifth on a wild pitch by Donnie Joseph (1-2), letting Matt Downs score. The Zephyrs took the lead in the sixth on Lucas' RBI single, making a winner of Jordan Conley (1-0).
