Trent Astle went the distance, holding Creighton to just three hits in Xavier's 5-0 win in the Big East Tournament championship game Sunday afternoon in New York City.
The Musketeers (29-27) earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament while the Bluejays fell to 32-17-1.
Xavier took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on three walks, a hit batter, a single and a two-base error. The Musketeers added a single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to put the game away.
Astle (5-4) walked one and fanned two. Creighton sophomore Taylor Elman (2-6) was charged with two runs on three hits, walking four and striking out one in 2.2 innings.
